Information about the Rescue Groups, Speakers and Vendors

Homeless Pet Placement League

HPPL was founded in 1989 by a group of individuals who were concerned about the plight of homeless dogs and cats in the Houston area; specifically, animals that would not usually be put up for adoption by the local animal shelters. These include animals with skin problems such as mange, heartworm positive dogs, and injured or seriously malnourished strays.
To rehabilitate and provide foster care for stray/abandoned dogs and cats with the goal of placing them into qualified, permanent adoptive homes;
To provide assistance to pet owners who are unable to assume the cost of spaying/neutering their animals;
To provide humane education and increase public compassion for animals in an effort to prevent future animal suffering and neglect;
To support other animal welfare organizations.

Friends For Life

A dynamic non-profit organization founded in 2001 committed to offering Houston a real alternative to shelters that kill homeless animals. Our ranks include veterinarians, lawyers, business people, architects, physicians, educators and trained shelter staff.

This visionary non-profit has saved thousands of animals through our innovative adoption, rescue, rehabilitation, pet retention and animal food bank programs. We rescue, medically treat, and place animals into loving homes.
Friends For Life is moving Houston forward to a No Kill future though along the pathways of proven success in other major cities. Only through programs that redefine "adoptable" will true No Kill progress be made. 75% of the animals Friends For Life has already placed in loving homes had been determined to be "unadoptable" in other area programs.

Our humane education programs for young people teach that “Compassion is cool!” Young people get actively involved in ways to make it a better world for both people and animals when they are empowered with the knowledge that they can make a meaningful difference.

Homeless Orphaned Pet Endeavor

HOPE covers the cost of general medical expenses for the animals in the program, such as altering, routine vaccinations and treatment for parasites. Our foster families are asked to provide food, shelter and love to the animals for which they care. They receive no payment for the services that they provide. If at all possible they are reimbursed for some of their costs, but the majority care for their foster animals gratis. Without them, and the other volunteers who so selflessly do what is necessary to keep HOPE afloat, it would not be possible to run this nonprofit corporation.

One aim of HOPE is to develop a network of area rescue and humane organizations which will facilitate the rescue and placement of a variety of animals. The goal is to never have to turn away an animal in need. By forming a coalition of humane and rescue groups in the Houston area, we could potentially place all animals who need a temporary home until they are placed into a permanent one.

Myra Logan

My intuition enables me to “hear” animals. The information I receive from animals comes in several forms: audio, visual, feelings, and a “knowing.” A “knowing” is receiving a lump of information in a second with complete understanding. Often, I use a method called automatic writing to record the information, which I relay to my client. We discuss the appropriate response or solution, and I communicate it to the animal. Thus, a dialog is opened between my client and the animal.

Most clients want to know if their animal companions are healthy and happy. Some clients want to resolve behavior problems. Others want to say their goodbyes to animals who are about to pass or have passed to the spiritual plane.

Other benefits of animal communication include talking with animals before and after adoption, competition (horse/dog/cat shows), travel and boarding. I often assist clients in obtaining information on animals’ health problems. A large number of my clients are referred to me by veterinary clinics, animal trainers, farriers, and animal rescue groups.
